City leaders disappointed, but not surprised that 'Revolution' is leaving Wilmington

NBC's 'Revolution'

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)- City leaders are disappointed but not surprised that Revolution is leaving Wilmington.

Giancarlo Esposito confirmed in a text message to our Frances Weller on Friday night that NBC is moving the hit series to Texas.

Councilman Kevin O'Grady said it seems the story line was moving them away from the Port City.

"They had always made allusions to Texas in the show, and I was thinking if they go to Texas, that it would be hard to imagine Texas here," he said. "We don't have that dry, arroyo type location. So, it's not a complete shock. We have lots of film work and other shows here now and there will be more coming."

NBC announced that Revolution would be picked up for the 2013-14 season a few weeks ago but did not indicate then if the show would be coming back to Wilmington.

'Ghostbusters' actor Ernie Hudson meets fans at 'Port City Pop Con'

Ernie Hudson from 'Ghostbusters' signs an autograph for a fan.

WILMINGTON,NC (WECT) - Calling all Walking Dead, Cajon, E. T., Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles, 80s and 90s cult classic film fans-- for the very first time, "Pop Con" is coming to the Port City.

Normally, organizers hold this annual event in larger cities, but considering movies like The Crow, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most recently Iron Man 3, were filmed in the Cape Fear area, Wilmington seemed to be the perfect area for this celebration of popular culture, comics and film.

Wilmington, North Carolina has never hosted a convention like this. There will be more than 40 celebrities and several after parties in the downtown area -- organizers said they hope to boost the local economy with the two day convention.

UPDATE: What's going on with NHC's emergency alert system?

Hurricane season starts June 1 and New Hanover County is fully capable of email and text alerts when the Emergency Operations Center is established, but the capability changes for events that are not countywide.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Hurricane season starts June 1 and New Hanover County is fully capable of email and text alerts when the Emergency Operations Center is established, but the capability changes for events that are not countywide.

Vital information from the EOC can be shared with citizens through email or text message if they sign up for "emergency information" updates. The service is available through the county's website, but it misses two components.

One is any emergency considered more local, like a gas leak or police stand-off. If the EOC is not operational, there is no update to send.

Two is the sign-up system. Nowhere in the description of the 4me sign-up system are the words "reverse notification."
