WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Police in Wilmington are warning vacant property owners, realtors and apartment managers about recent reoccurring copper thefts happening, according to a WPD spokesperson.
Police have received more than 20 larceny reports involving copper being removed from air conditioning units in the past month, the majority of which have taken place at vacant houses, apartments and businesses.
As a result, property owners and managers are advised to keep an eye on vacant properties, and deter any possible thefts by leaving lights on, parking a vehicle in the driveway or having a neighbor check on the property.
Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3609 or by using the anonymous Text-A-Tip line. To use that line, text the word CRIMES – then text Tip708 and the information you wish to send.
