WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A historical series and boat tour will be held soon, hosted by a UNC Wilmington Department of History professor, Dr. Chris E. Fonvielle, Jr., according to a press release from a Historic Wilmington Foundation spokesperson.
Fonvielle has authored several historical articles and books about the Cape Fear Region.
Tuesday, May 1, Fonvielle will discuss European exploration that started in the 1660s, as well as the failed Charlestowne settlement, and the Barbadian experiment. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Cape Fear Museum.
Friday, May 4, a river tour will take place with Dr. Fonvielle and Capt. Doug Springer. The early settlement along the river will be discussed. The event will take place at 10 a.m. at Wilmington Water Tours.
Finally, Fonvielle will discuss Brunswick Town vs. Wilmington, along with the American Revolution on May 8 at 7 p.m. at the Cape Fear Museum.
The total cost for all of the events is $45. The river tour by itself is $30, and individual lectures are $10.
