WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An event aimed at steering troubled young women in the right direction is scheduled to be held Thursday afternoon, according to a press release from a spokesperson for the Wilmington police Department.
The first ever U-Turn Power Luncheon for Women will be held at Thalian Hall from noon to 1:30 p.m.
More than 50 professional women and 50 women from the community working to change their lives are expected to be present.
Lynn Burke, a woman who was sentenced to 10 years in prison, will serve as the keynote speaker. After completing her sentence, Burke attended law school and is currently a member of the Washington, DC Bar Association, awaiting admittance to the NC Bar.
The U-turn initiative was developed by the Wilmington Police Department. In May, a similar luncheon was held for troubled men in the community.
