NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – More than 50 American flags will soon be distributed to schools across New Hanover County as a donation from the American Legion Post 10.
According to a news release from a county official, the flags, which will be donated at the upcoming regular Board of Education meeting Tuesday, will be displayed in classrooms, libraries and media centers.
The flags come after Board of Education Chairman Don Hayes requested last year that all county schools were checked to ensure that each had an American flag.
All 42 schools then gave feedback as to whether or not they did.
“It seems entirely appropriate for this donation to come on the heels of another 9/11 anniversary,” said Hayes in the release. “It is important for our students, educators, and community to recognize how grateful we are to live in a free country that provides a quality education and great care for our youth.”
