WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - We can learn a lot from just the smallest pieces of history, as a new exhibit at the Cape Fear Museum shows.

Fragments of War opens Friday, Oct. 5 and closes May 5, 2013. Visitors will be able to see rarely displayed artifacts including:

  • A commission signed by President Abraham Lincoln
  • Colonel Gaston Meares' hat
  • A flask presented to an officer of the U.S. Colored Troops who served at Fort Fisher
  • Pieces of fabric that came through the Union blockade of the port of Wilmington
  • A secession cockade made by a local woman who supported North Carolina's secession from the United States

Cape Fear Museum will host a gallery talk on Thursday, October 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with Curator Barbara Rowe and Historian Jan Davidson. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Call (910) 798-4362 to reserve a space.

Cape Fear Museum is located at 814 Market St. in Wilmington.
