WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Some of Wilmington’s best chefs will battle for bragging rights at an event Monday night. The cook off is being called “School of Fire” and will benefit Cape Fear Community College’s culinary technology program.
Uptown chefs, Kirsten Mitchell of Cameo 19 Hundred, Keith Rhodes of Catch and Tom Mills of Little Pond Catering will face Downtown chefs Josh Woo of Yo Sake, James Doss of Rx and Rebeca Alvarado Paredes of Manna.
Rhodes is well-known in the Wilmington community for his appearance on Bravo’s hit show, Top Chef. Mitchell was recently named by Food and Wine Magazine as a nominee for The People's Best New Chef for 2012.
School of Fire promises to be similar to the show, Iron Chef, in its format. Manna owner Billy Mellon will emcee the event. The audience will judge the food with the help of local celebrity judges, including Freaker USA owner Zack Crane and Wilmington food blogger Liz Biro.
The showdown happens 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15.
