WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington's Real Alternative radio station, THE EDGE 88.5 FM, is going off the air Nov. 12.

The move is coming after one of the larger donors to the station, was forced to pull its monthly contribution. The anonymous donor accounted for $8,000 a month.

According to Matt Wall, Development Manager, it was not only this large donation that kept the Edge broadcasting.

"Over the last few years as the economy started to slow, so did the donations,” Wall said. “It was a tough decision, but it had to be made.”

The Edge is well known for its alternative Christian music, and former morning radio show, The Dive with Scott and Earl.

In a message posted on their website, Jim Stephens, President and Founder of Carolina Christian Radio, says,

"I have some sad news to share with our Edge listeners today. Because of shortfalls in support of our ministry we are going to have to sell one of our radio stations. Because of that, after seeking the Lord's direction, the decision has been made by our Board of Directors to take The Edge off the air…" He continued, "We're thankful for over 5 1/2 years of ministry with the Edge and we appreciate you listening and your support."

The Edge broadcasts from the Murchison building in downtown Wilmington, and can be heard all over the Cape Fear region.

Programming that was originally on 106.7 will now be heard on 88.5FM. The station will focus on Bible teaching and Christian talk radio.
