CFCC professor aims to make a splash for those with disabilities

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) -  It's not often that folks get to do what they love and help others at the same time, but a CFCC business professor is finding a way to just that one day at a time.

Ben Shaw loves to surf. He also loves to help those with disabilities to experience the joys that surfing allows.

He is currently days away from finishing a year long journey of surfing everyday for charity.

Shaw volunteers with Ocean Cure. The group helps anyone from Wounded Warriors to children battling ALS.

"I saw first and the healing powers of the ocean…to see a smile come on a kid's face for the first time in who knows how long is special," he said.

Shaw says not all days were good to surf, but he tries to catch at least three every time he goes out.
