WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are hosting a week’s worth of events for rising 4th and 5th grade boys in the community.

Children participating in the five-day camp will get to enjoy recreational activities, field trips, educational experiences and will complete a community service project.

Wednesday morning, the campers took part in a bike rodeo at WPD headquarters. The Safe Kids organization donated helmets to children who did not have one. Later in the day, Police Chief Ralph Evangelous is expected to join them at the Ice House in Ogden.

Campers will take up kayaking and swimming at Wrightsville Beach Thursday and participate in a field day at Maides Park Friday.

The Wilmington Police Department has been running the Cop Camp sessions since 1995. The camp for girls will take place in July.
