WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department were on the scene of an accident that happened Thursday afternoon just after 3 p.m., involving 2 children, according to officials.
Jamarion Holt, age 10, was riding a pocket bike with his passenger Jacqual Goodman, age 11, when he tried to stop for a red light, but he hit the gas instead of the brake and as he entered the intersection, he was hit by driver Nancy Prickett Jones, of Wilmington, who had the green light.
Ms. Jones was driving a blue Buick headed eastbound on Dawson St. while the children were riding a pocket bike headed south on S. Tenth St. at Dawson St., when they were hit, according to the preliminary investigation.
Neither of the children were wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to officials.
Both children were sent to the hospital. Jamarion had a leg injury and was transported to NHRMC for treatment. Jacqual, the passenger, suffered serious head injuries and was transported to NHRMC and was being prepped to go to Chapel Hill for more treatment. No update on his condition is available at this time, according to officials.
The Wilmington Police Department also added that the mini pocket bikes, that the kids were riding on, are illegal for street use in North Carolina.
No charges will be filed against the driver.
