Wilmington city staff plants trees in honor of anniversary
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington added some greenery to its scenery by planting dozens of new trees Thursday.
Churches and local officials planted 50 live oak trees along historic Fifth Avenue in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Historic Preservation Commission.
One tree was planted for each year that the HPC has been a party of the city.
Area residents purchased the trees and city staff planted them.
Marsha Doering, Chairwoman of the Wilmington Tree Commission, says the trees help make Wilmington more beautiful.
The HPC was created in June 1962.
