PPD hosts luncheon to welcome new principal at DC Virgo | Community Spirit

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A luncheon will be held Friday to welcome the new principal to D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy.

Eric Irizarry was hired early this year as the new principal of the academy. He was most recently the headmaster of Roger Bacon Academy’s middle school at Charter Day School and has previously taught at Heyward C. Bellamy Elementary and Gregory Elementary schools, according to New Hanover County Schools.

The New Hanover County School Board unanimously voted in February to approve Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley's plan to reopen Virgo Prep, previously called Virgo Middle School.

The school has been closed since last August and was denied its charter school status in December.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will be at the luncheon Friday, hosted by PPD at its headquarters building in downtown Wilmington.
