WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Dozens gathered in the Thalian Hall ballroom Thursday for the first U-turn Power Luncheon for Women.

U-turn is a new program created by the Wilmington Police Department to help steer youth and adults with less than favorable pasts in the right direction. Wilmington Police Recreation also supports this initiative.

Lynn Burke, an inspiring young woman who was sentenced to 10 years in prison, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon. After being released from prison, Burke finished law school and is now a member of the Washington, DC Bar Association. She is waiting for admittance to the North Carolina Bar.

Dozens of young women from the community who are working earnestly to make dramatic U-turns in their lives attended the luncheon, in addition to more than 50 professional women.
