WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - He forecasts the weather every morning on WECT, but Colin Hackman is more than an award-winning meteorologist -- he's a life-saver.
Hackman’s heroism was recognized at the annual Wilmington Firefighter Awards Ceremony as he was reunited with the man he saved.
Hackman was running in a race in Pittsburgh when Tim Keefer collapsed. Keefer was having a heart attack, and Hackman performed CPR.
Keefer, who is a kidney cancer survivor, flew to Wilmington to surprise Hackman as he received the fire department's Citizen Heroism award.
“I would give him my other kidney if I could for helping me out like that,” said Keefer. “I wish I could do more for him. I heard he's a great guy, and you wouldn't know he's a celebrity, so it's pretty cool.”
The fire department also honored the brave men and women who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to save lives.
Several firefighters received awards for their acts of heroism.
