WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A lieutenant with the Wilmington Police Department has been appointed to the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, Kevin Smith with the WPD confirmed Wednesday.
Lt. Yolanda Sparrow, a Wilmington native, will be sworn in Friday at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh.
The commission is made up of 33 members who represent law enforcement, corrections and juvenile justice personnel, and Lt. Sparrow will be a representative for the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association. That association has been around for 60 years, and is a non-profit group that aims to maintain law enforcement professionalism through education, training, law enforcement and crime prevention.
Sparrow has more than 26 years in law enforcement, and she graduated from both the FBI National Academy and the Administrative Officer Management Program.
She holds her Bachelor’s Degree from Shaw University and her Master’s from Webster University.
