WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Wilmington handbag designer plans to share her creations with celebrities at the Oscars next year.
Nancy Ihlefeld started her handbag line, IHLE BAGS, two years ago.
She’s planning to travel to the 2014 Academy Awards to take part in the Red Carpet Celebrity Style Lounge. Nominees, celebrities and VIPs visit this lounge prior to the event, where entrepreneurs and companies can give away freebies in the hopes of creating buzz and getting more exposure.
All IHLE bags are handcrafted, using recycled leather and hardware.
Ihlefeld has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund the trip.
She is hoping to raise $22,000 in the next 11 days, and she plans to take someone who contributes $400 to the Oscars with her.
Ihlefeld said gifting the bags to celebrities at the event could propel her business.
“My ultimate dream is to get to the point where my designs are everywhere,” Ihefeld wrote on the Indiegogo page. “From the research I've done on this opportunity, these events have been known to create an overnight sensation for certain companies!”
