Victim claims roommate stabbed him during fight over a woman

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An argument between roommates resulted in a stabbing in the 1000 block of Fanning Street Thursday morning.

A Wilmington Police Department officer responded to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to interview the victim, according to spokesperson Lucy Crockett. The victim reportedly told the officer that he got into an argument with his roommate Jeffrey Deval Reid over a woman.

The victim said that Reid went into the kitchen, grabbed a large butcher knife and cut him, resulting in a 4” gash on his forearm.

Crockett said that the officer obtained a warrant for Reid’s arrest and he was taken into custody at his residence. Reid, 49, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and was in custody at the time of this post under a $15,000 secured bond.

Two behind bars, one man wanted in connection to house break-ins

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Two suspects were captured and one is still missing in connection to a slew of New Hanover County house break-ins, according to Sergeant J.J. Brewer with the Sheriff’s Office.

Daniel Webb-Sholar, 21, and Crystal Denise James, 22 were arrested late Tuesday night and Aaron Tremaine Grady is wanted.

Brewer said that Webb-Sholar is facing 17 counts of breaking and entering, and larceny. His booking report showed the following additional charges:

  • Failure to appear on a misdemeanor
  • Larceny after breaking and entering
  • Obtaining property by false pretense
  • Possession of stolen firearms
  • Possession with the intent to sell, manufacture or deliver marijuana
  • Possession of marijuana between half an ounce and 1.5 ounces
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances

 James was charged with 7 counts of breaking and entering, and larceny, according to Brewer. Her booking report showed the following additional charges:

  • Possession of stolen goods or property
  • Possession of stolen firearms
  • Providing a false report to law enforcement or officers
  • Possession with the intent to sell, manufacture or deliver marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances

Robber tells victim to take off pants, shoes then run

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an armed robber that happened Sunday night in the 300 block of Marstellar Street.

According to Lucy Crockett with the WPD, a 21-year-old was trying to deliver a pizza from Papa John's when a man wearing a red bandana partially covering his face approached him.

The victim told police the man pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at his head, telling him to take off his pants and shoes.

Police say the robber took cash from the pizza delivery man and told him to run. The victim ran through the woods to the 1200 block of South Third Street where he called 911.

Crockett said officers took the victim back to the scene to get his pants and shoes, but his car was gone. They were able to find the car later in the 1300 block of South Fourth Street, with the pizza delivery sign still attached to the roof.

Jewelry reported stolen from home on Country Club Road

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Police officials said a home in the 1600 block of Country Club Road was broken into Sunday afternoon.

The homeowner reported that she left her residence on Friday. When she returned on Sunday, someone had pried open a wall safe, according to Lucy Crockett with the Wilmington Police Department.

The intruder(s) also reportedly opened drawers in an upstairs bedroom and bathroom. The victim told police that all of the jewelry she kept in the safe had been removed.

Responding WPD officers determined that the point of entry was an unlocked back door, Crockett said.

The case is under investigation.

Woman forced out of car while sitting at intersection of 5th, Grace streets

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Three men approached a woman’s vehicle while she was stopped at a traffic light Sunday night and ordered her to get out of her car, according to Lucy Crockett with the Wilmington Police Department.

The front passenger side window of the victim’s gray 2003 Acura was rolled down at the time of the incident. She told officers that three men came up to her vehicle and one pointed a handgun at her around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Fifth and Grace streets.

When she got out of the car, she said all three men got into the car and drove away. The victim described the robbers as men in the 20s and 30s.

Crockett said, a description of the car was broadcast and a WPD supervisor located the stolen vehicle approximately 30 minutes later. It was abandoned near North Seventh and Market streets with the keys in the ignition.

Officers said they detected a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle.

ARREST: Wilmington woman charged with DWI, reckless driving

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Wilmington woman was arrested by the State Highway Patrol in Pender County on Friday.

Twenty-eight-year-old Amber Nichole Hill, of the 200 block of Mears Street, was charged with reckless driving to endanger, driving while impaired and driving to the left of the center lane, according to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office’s weekly intake report.

She was given a $600 secured bond and released.

60-year-old man booked after shooting a tree in his front yard

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A 60-year-old man from Wilmington was charged with firing a revolver within the city limits on Thursday night.

Wilmington Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Kidder Street around 8:30 p.m., according to spokesperson Lucy Crockett. When they arrived, they reportedly found Leonard Robert Sanders, who was intoxicated and admitted to firing his .357 revolver. He told authorities that he shot it from his porch and hit a tree in his front yard.

Sanders also told the responding officers that the .357 was in a drawer inside the house and that he had an additional three shotguns and two rifles in a closet.

Crockett said that officers placed the .356 into evidence and took the other weapons “for safekeeping due to the suspect being intoxicated.”

Sanders was charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits and was taken to the New Hanover County Detention Facility. He later posted bond and was released.
