WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The organizer of an event at Brooklyn Arts Center that ended in gunfire said there will be more safety precautions in place at future events.

Police investigated a report of shots fired early Monday morning at the Brooklyn Arts Center at 516 N. Fourth Street in downtown Wilmington.

No one was injured. Police received several calls reporting that multiple shots had been fired in the area.

Black Barbie Entertainment, a local promotions and marketing company, rented out the venue for a private party.

Tamira Bell, who is with BBE, said there was security at the event and those in attendance were searched for weapons before entering the party.

"We are not affiliated with any gang activity," she said. "We do not advocate violence."

Bell said BBE is a business that was founded by a group of women in order to empower women. She said they are involved in multiple charitable events in our community.

Bell said the group will take even more precautions at future events. They plan to meet to talk about things they can do to prevent something like this from happening again. Bell may also enforce a dress code at future events.
