WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Authorities are searching for a man wanted in connection to a shooting that took place in the Creekwood Community at the end of July.
Police believe Nashid Porter, 35, shot and killed Brian Grant, 32, at his home in Creekwood.
Eyewitnesses said the gunman got out of his car, walked up to Grant and shot him twice. Witnesses said the shooter "skipped" away from the crime scene and to his car. He fled from the scene.
According to Lucy Crockett from the Wilmington Police Department, Grant was found lying in the doorway of the apartment.
"Brian was just so funny – he would put a smile on anybody's face," said Michelle Williams, the mother of Grant's girlfriend, Ebony. "This is such a tragic thing. This type of crime has got to stop."
Williams said her daughter was planning to marry Grant.
Grant was the father of one child and acted as a father to the Ebony's two children, according to Williams.
This isn't the first time the Williams' family has been struck by tragedy.
Four years ago, on this date, July 27, Emmett Irving was gunned down. Irving was Ebony's boyfriend and the father of her children.
That crime remains unsolved.
Anyone with information regarding Porters' whereabouts is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3600. Information also may be submitted anonymously through Text-A-Tip. Enter Tip708 and the information; send to 274637 (CRIMES).
