WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested three people Tuesday accused of auto insurance fraud.

According to the Department of Justice, Alfonzo Bethea, 39, Antonette Denise Waters, 29, and Crystal Paige Waters, 30, have each been charged with two counts of insurance fraud, two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, and one count of filing a false police report.

Investigators say Antonette Waters was the only one who was involved in a traffic crash at Dawson and S. 14th Streets January 20. Bethea and Crystal Waters are accused of getting into the vehicle before police arrived to the scene and filed insurance claims with GEICO for property damage and medical expenses.

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested and charged all three of them August 14.
