WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department charged a minor Thursday night after he lead authorities on a foot chase.
According to Lt. Fanta, a boy took off running when police responded to the area of Tenth and Dawson Streets.
The officers tired to follow the juvenile as he ran away from Thomas C. Jervay Loop.
The boy attempted to climb a tree to elude the police, but was found by the K9 unit and caught by police near Tenth and Wright Streets.
After further investigation, police were able to find a machine pistol, believed to be the minor's, and a 30-round magazine in his jacket.
The suspect, who's name will not be released because he is a juvenile, was charged with hinder and delay arrest.
He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor.
