WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Residents of the Creekwood community gathered at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church Thursday evening to discuss the neighborhood's recent issues with crime.
The Wilmington Housing Authority and Wilmington Police Department held the informational meeting to get feedback from residents about the neighborhood's crime.
Residents said they would like to see an increased police presence at all hours of the day because violence can happen at any time. They also said they were concerned about people speeding in the neighborhood.
Raymond Bates used to live in Creekwood and is working with the NOT Foundation to help stop violence in the community. He hopes the police department will step-up enforcement in the developments like Creekwood.
"I'm just tired of hearing the same old thing," said Bates about police involvement in the neighborhood. "I want to start seeing more action done than just words."
