Person shot in the leg after reported armed robbery

Police in Wilmington are on the scene of a shooting in the 400 block of South 15th Street in Wilmington.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Police in Wilmington are on the scene of a shooting in the 400 block of South 15th Street in Wilmington. According to New Hanover County dispatch, the call came in just before 1:55 Wednesday morning.

Dispatch said police are looking for two people in connection to the shooting. It happened after a reported armed robbery. One man was shot in the leg. Dispatch said he is 27 years old. No word yet on his condition.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department have arrested five people, including two juveniles, who are accused of being involved in a number of armed robberies and home invasions in Wilmington.

According to Chief Ralph Evangelous, Tony King-Tilman, Marvin White, Nicholas Bannerman and two juveniles are accused of a robbery Nov. 9 on North Front Street outside of the parking deck and another the next day on the 200 block of Hanover Street.

Detectives said they were armed with handguns during the incidents.

White was indicted earlier this year for robbery with a dangerous weapon for his involvement in the brutal murder of delivery driver Zhen Bo Liu.

Cadaver dogs being brought in to aid in search for missing woman

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wednesday, police officers will continue the search for Alma Lawson, 83.

The search for the missing woman is in its 10th day.

Police are bringing in cadaver dogs to aid in the search. The dogs are coming from western North Carolina and are expected to arrive sometime tomorrow. Cadaver dogs are trained to trained to detect the scent of human remains.

Lawson, 83, was reported missing by her son, Ahmed Rashed, on Sunday after he said she didn't make it home from a friend's house.

Multiple agencies, including the Wilmington Fire Department, have participated in the search efforts.

Crews have been focusing their efforts along Burnt Mill Creek.

CRIME PREVENTION: District Attorney's Office implements 20-year plan

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – While law enforcement officials work hard to keep crime in the city under control, there are still certain areas in town where police are repeatedly called.

The District Attorney's Office is implementing a 20-year Plan in an effort to reduce crime-ridden areas of town.

The plan is simple – teach the children living in these areas the difference between right and wrong.

Local law enforcement is working with non-profits on programs like the Blue Ribbon Commission. They are also looking at communities like Harlem and will borrow and implement their best practices.

According to District Attorney Ben David, the people living in these neighborhoods are the victims, and sometimes even the ones causing the crime. He says if you don't educate the problem will continue.

Robbers take flat screen TV, leave it in the yard

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Three men forced their way into a home in the 200 block of Williamson Drive Saturday evening around 5:45.

According to police, a female was home alone when she answered a knock at the door. One of the three men hit the victim in the eye with a handgun.

Police say the men took the victim's prescription medication, Wii game system, and a flat screen TV which they left in the front yard.

Authorities say the robbers were seen getting into a vehicle described as a grey Trailblazer.

Man accused of sexual assault after offering woman a ride

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Carolina Beach Road late Saturday night.

According to police, the victim was walking in the 1700 block of Carolina Beach Road when a stranger driving a tan Trooper-style jeep stopped to offer her a ride, which she accepted.

The victim told police the man made a suggestive remark about a sexual act while they were in the car and tried to get away but couldn’t escape. She said the man drove her to a used car lot and sexually assaulted her.

According to police, the victim was eventually able to get out of the vehicle and run away.

The case is under investigation.

ARMED ROBBERY: Man takes off with a bag full of clothes

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man approached a woman returning to her car parked near Walnut and Water Streets around 7:45 Sunday night and took off with a bag of clothes.

According to police, the victim said she was getting something from the back seat when a man wearing a dark hoodie approached and put a gun to her head.

The victim told police the man did not speak, but grabbed a bag from the front seat of the vehicle and ran.

According to the victim, the bag had clothing in it.
