WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Wilmington man arrested in connection to drug charges faces a $1 million bond, according to a spokesperson with the Wilmington Police Department.

Police served a search warrant in the 200 block of N. 12th Street Wednesday night, where drugs were discovered.

As a result, Kinwana Antwane Long, 33, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin within 1,000 feet of a school, manufacturing heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for drug-related purposes, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities seize Mercedes after driver runs from officers

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Authorities with the Wilmington Police Department seized a Mercedes after the driver tried to get away from officers.

According to Cpl. Kevin Smith with the police department, an officer spotted the Mercedes going 61 mph in a 35 mph zone on Market Street and initiated his lights and sirens to pull over the vehicle.

Shawn Lamont Morant, 37, was driving the Mercedes and took off towards 21st Street and then on Wolcott Street, accelerating the entire time.

Smith said Morant finally pulled over at Wolcott and 20th Streets.

The officer could smell marijuana coming from the Mercedes when he approached the vehicle. According to Smith, the officer searched the vehicle and found marijuana and heroin drug paraphernalia in addition to several empty beer bottles.

Morant and his passenger, Aeisha Milton, were both arrested.

Man hides heroin in patrol car while being taken to police station

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested and charged a man who hid a Crown Royal bag full of heroin and drug paraphernalia under the back seat of the patrol car as he was being taken to jail.

According to police, a concerned citizen called 911 in reference to narcotics and prostitution at the Travel Lodge in the 4000 block of Market Street.

Four people were inside the hotel room when officers arrived. According to police, authorities found drug paraphernalia and marijuana inside the room.

Officers arrested Vernon Gore on three unrelated warrants. When they got to the Wilmington Police Department, officers discovered Gore hid a Crown Royal bag with heroin inside under the back seat of the patrol vehicle.

Gore was charged for felony possession of schedule I, possession of drug paraphernalia, four misdemeanor failures to appear, and two bond surrenders.

Man charged for carrying concealed weapon, heroin possession

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Authorities arrested a man during a traffic stop after spotting a knife concealed in the steering column of the car.

According to police, a deputy with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office stopped Bradley Cole Abernathy, 33, while driving in the area of Surry and Queen Streets. The deputy is familiar with drugs and prostitution in that area.

An officer with the Wilmington Police Department responded to assist the deputy and noticed the knife in the vehicle.

The officials searched Abernathy's vehicle and found ten bindles of heroin. A subsequent search of the car revealed synthetic marijuana and baggies.

Abernathy was charged for carrying a concealed weapon, PWISD heroin, possession of heroin, possession of schedule VI, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wilm. man sentenced to more than 20 years in prison

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Wilmington man who faced drug charges was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison Tuesday, according to a spokesperson on behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice.

A judge sentenced Carl Eugene McPhaul, 44, to 262 months imprisonment and five years of supervised release.   

McPhaul pleaded guilty May 7 to possession with intent to deliver marijuana and cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Man arrested, charged after reportedly throwing bag of marijuana on ground in front of cops

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to officials with the Wilmington Police Department, while driving through the Houston Moore housing area  early Thursday morning, officers recognized a suspect who was on the Wilmington Housing Authority trespassing list.

As they attempted to speak with the suspect, 33-year-old Herbert Alex Bradley, Bradley threw down a plastic bag containing 10 individual bags of marijuana.

ARRESTED: Man passes out in Taco Bell drive-thru line

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested a man who was passed out in his car while waiting in line at Taco Bell.

According to Lucy Crockett with the WPD, witnesses said Charles Crawford's vehicle had taken a sharp right onto a curb, just missing a tree.

As the officers checked on Crawford, they found a Mason jar containing 49 grams of marijuana on the floorboard of the passenger seat. They also found scales and other paraphernalia after a search of the vehicle.

Crawford was charged with DWI, possessions with intent to sell / distribute Schedule VI (marijuana), and careless and reckless driving.

Crawford posted bond and was released from the New Hanover County Detention Center.
