From selling cocaine to selling cake

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department hosted a luncheon Wednesday for young men in the community who are working hard to make positive changes in their lives.

They created a "U-Turn" program in an effort to help steer youth and individuals with less than favorable pasts in the right direction.

More than 50 professionals in the area were at the U-Turn Power Luncheon to speak and share a meal with 50 young men from the community.

When people are lost in life, they need some direction.

"We don't have this kind of direction, kind of motivation or to know about how to go get it," said Antwyn Beatty, one of the young men at the event. Beatty learned from the same leaders who convicted him for selling drugs.
