WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An interim provider of Head Start services met with parents, community members and staff at the New Hanover Community Action Center Monday night to explain the next steps in the process of providing Head Start education to area children.

New Hanover County Community Action Inc. lost an appeal to continue to provide services to some children in New Hanover County.  Federal officials notified the group that it would lose its Head Start designation after failing to meet certain criteria for months.

CDI will take over the Wilmington Head Start program on an interim basis until a permanent organization can be identified. They hope to have classes resume in a new location by Monday.
But the problem is, they first have to obtain licenses and certifications to operate a facility in the state of North Carolina.

CDI officials couldn't answer questions regarding the details of licensure and the new location.

Former staffers will have to re-apply for their positions and CDI will look into possibly changing some management positions at the school. They plan to hold a job fair on Wednesday for people to come and apply for the open positions.

Some families who attended Monday's meeting indicated to WECT.com they were upset by all the changes and concerned about their children's education.

Parents and community members with questions can call a toll-free number to find answers. That number is 1-855-303-0634.
