Activists rally for Gov. McCrory to live on $350 a week unemployment benefit

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Action NC held a rally Thursday, at the Riverwalk near Market St.,asking Gov McCrory to take the $350 challenge.

Under a new unemployment insurance scheme, the proposal cuts the maximum weekly benefit from $535 a week to $350 a week.

Activists say they have lawmakers who are willing to take it, but McCrory needs to be first.

"This cut to unemployment benefits affects everyone," said Policy and Public Affairs Manager Kevin Rogers. "Many people don't realize what's happening in Raleigh, because they're busy with their own lives."
