Ta Ta Sisterhood to reveal 2013 calendar at fundraiser

Ta Ta Sisterhood to reveal 2013 calendar at fundraiser

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - It's a sisterhood weaved with stories of survival and struggle. The Ta Ta Sisterhood of the Cape Fear is a place for women and men who have experienced breast cancer, and this weekend is one of their most impactful fundraisers.

Saturday will be the annual "calendar release bodacious party." It's a tastefully done, pinup style calendar full of women who are fighting or who have survived breast cancer.

"Every day I have to look at my scars from surgery and they are scary," said Joanne Meisenhelder. "I'm still trying to deal with them. The calendar shoot is to show women that their bodies are still as beautiful as they have always been, no matter the harshness of cancer treatments or surgeries."

This is the third year the sisterhood has released calendars and this year's event will be at the Cape Fear Museum starting at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29.

Caught on camera: Wilmington scavenger hunt marriage proposal

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Sara McEwen had no idea what was in store for her when she and her boyfriend, Josh Harcus, headed to Wrightsville Beach Saturday morning to enjoy a beautiful sunrise.

Little did she know that Harcus had a unique scavenger hunt planned for the day that would end in a marriage proposal.

Harcus was able to capture each moment leading up to the big question on camera, and later uploaded it to YouTube in a segment that's a little longer than the average online video, but definitely worth watching all the way through.

The video starts out with the UNC Wilmington alums sitting on the beach, taking in the serene atmosphere and talking. Before long, one of the couple’s mutual friends named Andrew comes out of the water, holding scuba gear, and approaches the pair before handing McEwen a note. Harcus feigns surprise, asking, “What are you doing here?”

Teachers will give the parents tips on how to help their children read at home, and each child will receive a free book.

“The program will not only help our families start off their day in a positive way, but will also help parents teach their child how to become a better reader," said Principal Kristin Jackson in a news release. "It reinforces to our kids that we all think reading is important including mom, dad or that special person that joins them.”
