Crane buckles in downtown Wilmington, emergency crews respond | News

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Evacuations were lifted Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 for businesses along Front Street in downtown Wilmington.
Emergency crews responded to Second and Grace Streets around lunchtime Tuesday because a construction crane slightly buckled.
According to New Hanover County Dispatch, the crane operator noticed around 10:30 a.m. that the machine had slightly bent while trying to lift something. They say the crane operator notified neighboring businesses that it would be a good idea to evacuate.
The 911 center was not notified until around 12:30 p.m. of any issues. Officials with the Wilmington Police and Fire Departments evacuated more buildings on the Front Street side and kept people away from the area as a safety precaution.
Cape Fear Community College classes that were scheduled to take place in the "Q" Building on Tuesday have been relocated to a new location. Here is the list:
- Intro to Criminal Justice: S-414
- Corrections: S-307
- Developmental Psych: S-205
- General Psychology: S-205
- Social Psychology: S-205
- Intro to Spanish Inter: S-302
The crane did not collapsed at this time.
