Driver charged with DWI in accident that critically injured pedestrian

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wilmington Police have released new information into a serious accident Thursday night on South Fifth Avenue.

According to investigators, Antwine Lucas, 29, was impaired by a substance while driving on South Fifth around 3:30pm.  Police say he struck someone who was standing on the sidewalk at the time.  The pedestrian was dragged several feet and the car ended up hitting an unoccupied house.

Lucas was charged with a felony DWI causing serious injury and careless and reckless driving. 

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released yet, is listed in critical but stable condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
