WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - At Tuesday's meeting, city council members voted unanimously to deny Wilmington Downtown, Inc.'s hotel proposal.
The original proposal was designed to restrict any new hotels to the downtown area only.
Councilmember Margaret Haynes called the propsal "disappointing."
WDI Board Chairman David Spetrino said that he and other board members knew the idea would voted down.
Haynes went on to say WDI waste city staff's time on something they knew would not pass.
Councilmember Kevin O'Grady added that WDI has the right idea, but the plan was just too restrictive.
