WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Repairs to the forward and main masts of the Battleship North Carolina are complete, according to a spokesperson for the ship.
Crews rebuilt the forward mast for reinforcement and placed it back on the ship, all the while maintaining the preservation of the Battleship. They also worked on the masts’ safety by rebuilding handrails and strengthening braces and strut supports for platform and yardarms.
Now, maintenance staff will work on motor detail to have the SK2 radar on the forward mast turning by summer.
According to a press release, the $110,000 project came in on budget and time, funded by the operating budget of the Battleship.
