OMAHA, NE (WECT) - A pair of personal bests weren't enough for Wilmington's Cari Blalock to advance to the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.
Blalock, who finished 28th overall in the 100-meter butterfly and 15th in the 400-meter individual medley, needed to be among the top 16 and eight respectively to advance.
The New Hanover High school alum posted a time of 1:00.39 (previous best was 1:00.75) in the 100-meter fly.
Blalock produced her second personal-best swim of the day in the 400-meter individual medley as she was clocked in 4:48.10, taking 7.10 seconds off her previous career best time in the event.
Blalock is scheduled to swim in the 200-meter IM on Wednesday as well as the 200-meter fly Thursday.
