WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Hundreds of fish
have washed up around Greenfield Lake. This is leaving unpleasant sights and
smells around the park.
Kemp Burdette from the Cape Fear River Watch
said the high temperatures remove oxygen from the water. That means there is
less oxygen available for the fish.
He said luckily, there is less algae in the
water this year than in previous years. The algae he said removes a lot of
oxygen from the water. He said if there were more algae in the water, there
would likely be more dead fish.
