Wilmington Hammerheads Press Release

WILMINGTON, NC – The Wilmington Hammerheads
registered nine shots Thursday at Legion Stadium but could not find the back of
the net and had to settle for a scoreless tie with the Rochester Rhinos. The
Hammerheads posted their second consecutive shutout, but unfortunately settled
to end the game in a draw, the same outcome as the last time the two teams
faced in Rochester.

It was a hard fought battle for both teams, as the fourth placed
Hammerheads faced off against the second ranked Rhinos with competition heating
up in the second half of the season. The last time the two teams met up in
Rochester, the game ended in similarly a 1-1 draw. Although this game finished
with the same outcome, it was not for lack of trying. Both teams put up shot
after shot trying to get some kind of offense going as the Hammerheads
dominated possession and ended with a 9-7 edge on shots.

The Hammerheads greatest chance and the most excitement might
have happened in the very first 40 seconds of play. Corey Hertzog found himself
on a breakaway, going one-on-one with Rhino's goalkeeper, Kristian Nicht.
Hertzog's shot sailed just right of the goal post and began a trend of chances
that, for both teams, just kept ending up short.

Coach Irving made substitutions late in the second half to see
if a couple new faces could register some action and get the offense started.
Although the Hammerheads were unable to tally a goal, their shutout of the
Rhino's offense keeps their streak alive of never losing on their home field
during the 2012 official regular season.

Wilmington hits the road to travel to Charleston this weekend
but will be back in action at home on Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. They will
face off against the Dayton Dutch Lions at Legion Stadium in their next home
match. For more information, visit www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com.
