NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A decision on the fate of
320 Chestnut Street was once again tabled at Monday's New Hanover County
Commissioners meeting.
Commissioners earlier voted on spending up to $10 million to
renovate the downtown building that sustained heavy water damage in 2009. But
Monday, commissioners wanted to hear plans from the private sector.
After hearing four proposals, commissioners decided they
still need more time and information before they can make a final decision.
Commissioners voted to hold a work session in September. From there, they will
decide if they should move forward with the renovation or put out an official
request for private developers to work to take over the project.
