Old jail becomes new center to rehabilitate ex-cons
News

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A new center hopes to help those who are trying to turn their lives around after being behind bars. Leading Into New Communities, or LINC, officially opened the new Marvin Roberts Transitional Living Facility.

Executive Director Frankie Roberts lost his brother to drug addiction. The center is named in his honor.

It's located at the former county jail annex on Division Drive.

The 40-bed facility will get those who were in jail back on their feet.

Roberts said the community helped make this $1.5 million renovation possible.

"Re-entry is becoming more and more of an endeavor that people will support," he said. "That is one of the big things that today shows. This community will support people getting second chances."

Since it was formed in 2007, only 8 percent of those who went through the program ended up back in prison.
