NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - County Commissioner Ted Davis has been approached by the NHC Republican Party to fill the seat in the state legislature being vacated by Danny McComas.
North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue appointed Representative Danny McComas (R-New Hanover County) as chairman of the State Ports Authority Wednesday.
Davis said he is consulting with his wife and party leaders on if he should accept the appointment.
The executive committee of the local Republican party would have to approve this move.
If Davis decides that he wants the seat, the vote will likely happen in two weeks. From that time, the governor has seven days to approve the appointment or it automatically takes place.
As for the seat on the board of commissioners that would be left open, the Republican Executive Committee would recommend someone for the job.
The four remaining commissioners would have to vote to approve the recommendation.
