WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Board of Trustees at Cape Fear Community College have voted to grant an easement to the Town of Burgaw so they can develop a park.
The neighborhood park will be constructed on the undeveloped portion of the CFCC Burgaw Campus. The land is located next to the college's classroom facilities on Industrial Drive and will be developed into a public park.
CFCC President Dr. G. Frank Sells applauded the decision and says that it will be mutually beneficial to both parties.
"This is a real win-win for the community and our students," Dr. Sells said. He added that he feels the park will enhance the area around the campus and provide an attractive outdoor space for both students and visitors.
Burgaw Town Manager Chad McEwen expressed his appreciation to the trustees for their support of the project and said that the he expects the park to be open within the next six months.
"This park will be great addition to the town and the college," McEwen said. Students at Pender County College next door say they can't wait for the park to open.
According to a spokesperson for the college, CFCC's Burgaw Center offers a variety of continuing education classes and is also home to the Pender County Early College High School.
