WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The NC Azalea Festival, Arts Council
of Wilmington and New Hanover County are looking for the best design for a
water feature that will be placed at Riverfront Park in downtown Wilmington.

The current Riverfront Park was developed in the 1980s and
is now showing signs of wear from years of use and is in need of restoration. A
federal grant will be used for design of the downtown festival park.

According to a press release, the NC Azalea Festival and
Wilmington, Inc. in partnership with the City of Wilmington will help fund a
signature water feature that will be placed in the park during phase 1 of the
redevelopment.

The water feature will commemorate the NC Azalea Festival,
its history, traditions, values and community spirit.

The organizations are holding a competition to determine the
design of the water feature. The contest is open to all professional artists
and artist teams from all fields. Interdisciplinary teamwork is encouraged to
ensure a fluid, working design.

According to the press release, entries will only be
accepted by those officially registered for the competition. To officially
register, please visit the North Carolina Azalea Festival website at:  www.ncazaleafestival.org. Upon registration, participants will receive
an e-mail with further instructions and information.
