WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Administrators at Cape Fear Community College are working on getting more young people out to vote.

A panel of teachers and the student government association president hosted a question and answer session, and gave the students lectures on why their vote matters.  The forum's moderator says historically, young adults have had the lowest voter turnout rates.

"It's really important for younger people to vote and to have a voice in their government," said Dr. Gena McKinley.

"We really need to look into the candidates and just be able to know why we are voting and who we are voting for," said first-time voter, Molly Hartsfield.

A voter registration table was also set up, so students could register to vote before and after the forum.
