WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Brown Coat Pub and Theater is now a Little Shop of Horrors. Guerilla Theatre is staging the popular production through much of the month of November.

It follows Seymour, who works at the ailing Skid Row Florist Shop.

"One day he finds a very strange and interesting plant," said director Nick Smith.

He names the plant Audrey 2, after his co-worker and love interest.

"The allure of the plant helps the shop get more business, but he finds out as time goes on there is a little bit more to that plant than he had suspected."

That's because it's a carnivorous plant "that turns out to eat blood and people," said actor Beau Mumford who plays the role of Seymour.

To placate the plant, and keep up his newfound fame, Seymour finds people to be Audrey 2's dinner. Things get worse when the plant goes after Audrey and then Seymour himself.

"I think that it has a bit of a lesson to tell about how you shouldn't go around hurting people no matter what the reason," said Mumford.

"It's just as entertaining as it can be," said Smith. "I mean the songs are fun."

Such as the opening number Little Shop of Horrors done in a doo-wop style, Suddenly Seymour, the love ballad between Audrey and Seymour and Feed Me, the plant's turn to shine as it manipulates Seymour for food.

"It's very funny," said Smith. "It's very silly, lots of good dark humor. I mean, it's essentially a monster movie on stage."

Let's just hope that's where the monsters stay.
