WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – It's been six days since Alma Lawson went missing and detectives have not been able to find any trace of her in the Love Grove neighborhood.
Multiple agencies, including the Wilmington Fire Department, have participated in the search efforts since Sunday.
Crews took the fire department's search boat out on Friday to use the sonar scan along Burnt Mill Creek.
Search crews took a brief break Friday afternoon for a briefing, but they will resume their efforts Friday night.
This is still being handled as a missing persons case, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Storm water crews were also dispatched on Friday to check uncovered storm drains. Detectives said they wanted to make sure she didn't fall into an open drain.
WECT.com reached out the NC Cue Center for Missing Persons to see if they were going to assist in the search efforts. A representative with the group said they have not received word from the family to help in the search. Without paperwork, the Cue Center cannot dispatch a search party to the area.
Family we spoke to on Friday said they are now taking matters into their own hands. They have created a small search group to help assist detectives. One family member told WECT.com that they believe someone took Lawson out of the Love Grove neighborhood.
