Why didn't the city's holiday tree light up on cue? | News

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – After, yet another, failed attempt to light the Holiday Tree in Wilmington, the parks director is recommending they skip the countdown for the tree lighting.

According to Parks Director Amy Beatty, a breaker tripped during the countdown Friday evening, despite multiple tests before the event.

Beatty sent an email to city leaders saying that until renovations to Riverfront Park are complete, the city should consider going back to a more simple program that includes holiday activities, but not a tree lighting countdown.
