WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officials with the Wilmington Police
Department have charged Boyd Daddison Starnes, age 57, with 2nd degree murder
Friday, Dec. 28 in the death of his brother, according to officials.

On July 20, 2012 EMS and WPD responded to Solomon Towers in
response to a subject complaining of pain after being assaulted. The victim,
Barry Lynn Starnes, age 50, stated that he had been assaulted the day before by
his brother, Boyd, according to officials.

Barry refused to cooperate with law enforcement and did not want
to file a police report. He was treated and released from the hospital within a
day.

Barry was re-admitted to the hospital on July 27, 2012 after
complaining of ongoing pain in the areas where he had been hit. Doctors
informed him that he was losing a lot of blood internally and due to many
health issues, surgery was not an option, according to officials.

On July 29, 2012, Wilmington Police responded to the hospital
after Mr. Starnes' family urged him to file a police report due to his failing
condition. Officers then documented the incident.

Barry Lynn Starnes died at the New Hanover Regional Medical
Center on Aug. 2, 2012.

According to officials, Boyd Daddison Starnes was already in custody at the New
Hanover County Detention Facility since being arrested on Aug. 6 for assault
inflicting serious bodily injury.
