WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A six-foot invisible rabbit is taking the stage in Wilmington. He's one of the stars of Big Dawg's production of the Mary Chase's play Harvey.
He's also the main character's best friend. Elwood P. Dowd introduces everyone to his unseen companion, to the embarrassment of his sister.
When she tries to have him committed to a sanitarium, things get really silly. Much like trying to act opposite a big invisible bunny.
"If you're casting for a six-foot invisible rabbit, it's really hard. So we got the best one we could, so if there are any problems that arise or anything that I may do or don't do or if I look confounded or confused, blame it on the invisible rabbit," joked actor Mike O'Neil.
It's through this funny story that all the characters, not just Elwood and his rabbit, really come to life.
"Everyone has really wonderful moments and Mary Chase has written some really wonderful characters, so everyone has a chance to shine even in the smallest part," said O'Neil.
