WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A dark plume of smoke could be seen from miles away today as an abandoned vehicle burned for nearly 20 minutes. The Wilmington Fire Department responded quickly but could not immediately put the fire out because a power line was sparking over head. One business lost power for about an hour while Progress Energy fixed the power line.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, the van broke down last night around midnight. The owner of the vehicle left it there over night and was on his way back to pick it up when he saw the fire. At this time there is no word how the fire started.
