WECT reporter says goodbye to Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Tuesday is a WECT reporter’s final day on channel six in Wilmington.

Veronica Macias is taking a job in Texas to be closer to her family and she will be missed by all at WECT and Fox Wilmington.

Here are a few going-away comments from her co-workers:

  • Veronica, I will never forget all of our funny times spent together. “Hold on, hold on, hold on…” I wish you the best chica. Xo –Nikki Bussey
  • I wish Veronica the best of luck as she starts a new chapter of her life in Texas. Hopefully the area will be warmer than her spot in the newsroom! –Debra Worley
  • Veronica has a lot of determination and passion. I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up on Telemundo one day! I’m sad she’s leaving but am glad she’ll be closer to family. –Michelle Li
  • Veronica... I can't believe how fast time has gone by together at WECT!! We started within a month of each other and I remember going to get Mexican food at k38 together and talking about how nervous/excited we were to be working in TV news. Love you and best of luck. Hopefully you get to cover some spicy stories about border patrol! –Lindsay Curtin
  • Veronica is a beautiful person inside and out. She has a big heart and passion for whatever she does. I am so thankful to have had her as a coworker and friend! I’ll miss you but I know you will do great things. –Claire Hosmann
  • It has been a true pleasure working with you, Veronica.  I will miss you much.  I’ll never forget the time you interviewed the brothers of a guy who had been shot and killed.  The brothers were talking amongst themselves while you got the camera ready for the interview.  One of them said to the other “She bad ain’t she?”  You thought they meant you were bad as in bad…bad.  Obviously, they meant bad…good.  Those two will be sad to see you leave WECT!!!  Good luck in Texas and thank you for all of your contributions to WECT! –Frances Weller
  • Even though I haven’t known her very long, Veronica is one of the sweetest people I have ever worked with. I wish her the best of luck in Texas! –Sarah Crandall
  • Veronica, I'm going to miss your kind gentle spirit. Stay sweet and good luck! –Gavin Johnson
  • Te extraniaremos muchisimo loquita! –Craig Reck

During her time at WECT, Veronica and Ryan Koresko won a best spot news award from the RTDNAC contest for their coverage of the Bladen County wildfire.

Congratulations on your new job, Veronica, and good luck in the future!
