NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Carousel Center for Abused Children in Wilmington has a new executive director.

Amy Feath started at the non-profit organization this week. Before taking over the Carousel Center, Feath oversaw the Rape Crisis Center and Open House Youth Services for Coastal Horizons.

The board's president, Todd Godbey, said former director April Scott submitted her resignation in July. He said it's unclear why she left, but she did so before taking her grant-funded sabbatical.

Scott was one of five recipients of a $25,000 award from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. The money is meant to be spent on a 3-6 month sabbatical from long-hour, leadership roles.

Scott said she wouldn't go anywhere until the Carousel Center's budget for the coming year is set. Godbey said the budget has been balanced for the year and looks forward to Feath's leadership.

The Carousel Center is working to become an accredited organization.
